Can I use any charger for my electric car?
Yes you can use any charger for your electric car, although it is important to note your car will come with a specific plug type (typically type 2) which will fit nearly all chargers.
Should I pay more for a better car charger?
The quality of car charger is very important. You need to ensure they are fitted with automatic cut-off capability in case of a fault, as well as load management capability to ensure you do not exceed the power consumption allocated to your home causing a power outage.
Do I need 3-phase to charge my car?
No, you do not 3-phase to charge your car. You can charge your car with a standard single-phase supply however faster charging is available with a 3-phase connection.
How long does it take to charge an electric car?
Well that all depends on the size of your car’s battery however a good rule of thumb is to allow 1km per KW of charge every 10min.
As an example, a car charging on a 22kw charger will recoup approximately 22Km of range every 10min. (Please note this may vary due to car and charger variables).
What if my car draws too much power at home?
When installing a car charger in most cases it will be very important to install a load management device at your home. This will allow your car to charge at maximum power when it’s available. When your house is being used actively such as the A/C is on with the washing machine, cook-top and pool pumps the load management device will automatically reduce the power available to your EV charger to ensure excess power consumption does not overload the property or home.
Can I Install a car charger at my apartment building?
Yes, you can however this will be subject to the approval of your body corporate. There are 3 main ways to install car chargers in apartment buildings.
- To install a new connection directly from your apartments power supply to the charger location.
- To Install a car charger powered off the existing lighting and power supply to the parking area and have a separate check meter to bill the user appropriately.
- To install metered car chargers through the body corporate which are billed per use.
What type of plug do I need for my electric car?
In Australia, the most common plug will be a Type 2. (2.2-22kw) & Type CCS2 (Up to 350kw)
How to I bill my work if I charge my company car at home?
We can install a home charger that is linked to your employer. Your employer can be sent a monthly summary and in turn, the cost to charge will be reimbursed directly back into your bank account at the end of each month.
Do I need to fully charge my car every time?
No, you do not need to fully charge your car, you only need to charge to the amount of Km you need to travel.
Will my solar at home charge my car?
Any excess power produced from your solar panels can be used to charge your electric car. In some applications, you can schedule car charging to only start when there is sufficient excess solar so that no power is consumed from the grid. This style of charging is of course weather and time-dependent and causes significant delays in your charge time. .
Can I have control of who uses my car charger?
Yes, you can have RFID cards specifically set to your car charger ensuring that only people with the allocated cards can use your charger.
Can I charge people for using my charger?
Yes, payment methods can be set up for people to use your charger, this will generally have a monthly fee and % per usage expense attached to each charge.
